He paused and then remarked Yo the streets is where its at right now. El, really surprised me as an artist. While under contract with Motown , he and his family made pop records, Most were tunes of the day and some became classics. After seeing him with Quincy Jones , I started to take notice. Of course he could sing , and perform live. Everyone who stayed at Motown had to be able to do these things. But after seeing writer’s credit on “Secret Gardens” , I made a point to find out who he was really hanging with in the studio. I soon realized a lot people whom I admired was working with El. Not only that, El really admired Marvin Gaye, and was heavily influenced by him. That brings me to this CD Heart, Mind, & Soul. El and the other Debarges are very prominent on this most excellent CD.
This CD also included Babyface, Stevie Wonder, Jermaine Dupri, Jeff Lorber , and others. But make no mistake, This is a Debarge produced CD, and it’s damn good. The album went platinum to further establish Dupris dominance in the music industry.
